Five and six-year-old brothers from Colorado are left fighting for their lives after a near-fatal car accident.

Blake Robinson, 5, was reportedly ejected from the vehicle his father, Jeremy, 39, was driving and moments later was believed to be struck by another vehicle.

Blake’s older brother, Brody, 6, is currently suffering from multiple injuries as a result of the horrific accident, including a skull fracture, which his mother, Brittany, 38, said was being worked on by doctors Friday.

Officers who responded to the scene ‘don’t believe the children were buckled in the harness in their car seats,’ Fox31 reports.

The nightmarish crash happened just before 7:30 am on Wednesday at the intersection of 130th Avenue and Holly Street in Thornton.

Police say a truck hit the vehicle Jeremy was driving with their elementary-aged sons as they were heading to school.

The boys’ mother recalled the events of that fateful morning stating that she received a call from an unknown number which she declined at first.

‘It was my husband saying get to the intersection of 130th and Holly immediately. That there had been a terrible accident and I heard screaming and sirens in the background.’

The 38-year-old mother recalls her children were in fact ‘in seatbelts when we left the house and they were buckled up when we left.’

‘Just be diligent with your children,’ she added suggesting the two boys may have unbuckled themselves.

The two boys were admitted a local hospital’s intensive care unit following the severe crash, each of them sedated and placed on a ventilator in the hours after their arrival.

Since, the brothers have both undergone extensive procedures.

Blake underwent a near seven-hour surgery to ‘basically reconstruct the right side of his face and save his eye,’ Brittany updated a GoFundMe page made by a family member in the wake of the accident.

‘Brody had surgery yesterday to fix a broken femur,’ she added on October 10.

‘[Brody] did sustain a fractured skull and will head back to the OR today to fix that. His brain appears to be ok, he has suffered a TBI but they feel confident he will recover,’ she said.

She has continued to update the page as the boys remain in the intensive care unit.

On Friday, the mother-of two said: ‘Very quick update, Brody had a successful surgery today repairing his skull fracture. All major surgeries for both of my little guys have been completed! Blake is off the ventilator and is breathing fully on his own!’

At this time the crash is still being investigated to determine any and all contributing factors and who had the right of way.

No charges are pending as of now, but police say that could change.

The Robinson family’s journey is far from over as Brittany says she has felt ‘every possible emotion’ in the hours following the tragic accident.

‘Please kiss your babies goodbye every time they walk out the door,’ she closed her most recent update with.
