Mark Zuckerberg is set to drop $270 million on his top-secret Hawaii compound – which features multiple mansions, an entire village and a 5,000 square foot underground bunker.

WIRED obtained public records and court documents revealing all of the extravagant amenities Zuckerberg plans to include in his Koolau Ranch property located on the northeast shore of Hawaii’s oldest island Kauai.

The billionaire Facebook founder, 39, and his wife Priscilla Chan bought 110 acres of a former sugar plantation on the island back in 2021 – adding to the couple’s 1,300 acre $100million luxury estate.

His $270 million project will be one of the largest personal constructions of all time.

Two mansions in the self-sufficient compound will sprawl over a whopping total of at least 57,000 square feet.

The lavish homes will include 30 bedrooms, 30 bathrooms, conference rooms, an industrial kitchen and multiple elevators, documents revealed.

An elaborate underground tunnel system will connect the mansions – the pathway, which will double as a shelter, stretches out of 5,000 square feet and features a living area, library and an escape hatch.

The bunker has soundproof doors made of metal and concrete to protect against possible threats, including bombs.

Zuckerberg and his lucky guests won’t have to worry about leaving the compound for any reason – the self-sufficient estate has food and water sources as well as every amenity you can think of.

There are guest houses, a gym, a sauna, several swimming pools, a hot tub, a cold plunge pool and a tennis court.

A particularly unique feature of Zuckerberg’s over-the-top pad is a network of 11 treehouses connected with rope bridges.

The contractor who built the treehouse extravaganza sued Zuckerberg last year over $133,726 in unpaid funds that the businessman allegedly owed.

Zuckerberg’s wildly luxurious Hawaiian real estate project has been riddled with controversy – with people accusing the Facebook founder of ‘colonizing Hawaii’.

Organizers of a 2020 Change.org petition accused the billionaire of suing the natives in order to build a mansion on their land.

The petition stated: ‘Hawaiians are already mistreated enough as is. We need to let them have this. Their land is important to them. He’s building a mansion to what? Live in Kauai for two months out of the year? This is inhuman. It is sick. He needs to be stopped.’

In 2022 – the family of a security guard who worked for Mark Zuckerberg and died from a heart attack after walking up a steep hill pursued a wrongful death lawsuit against the Meta founder.

Rodney Medeiros, 70, was found with his hand on his chest while working a shift at Zuckerberg’s property at Kualoa Ranch in Kauai, Hawaii.

The security guard was rushed to hospital, and died later the same day.

He was working at the bottom a steep hill on Pilaa Beach when it started to raining, forcing Medeiros to walk up the cliffside hill alone on August 4, 2019.
