Saoirse Ronan has revealed she has a secret ambition to star as a James Bond villain and she would love for her husband Jack Lowden to portray 007.

If the Little Women stars, 30, wishes were to come true the couple would be the first ever Mr and Mrs Bond, making them an even more iconic couple.

When discussing what her evil trait would be if she starred in the spy series, Saoirse suggested she would love her character to have a limp.

She told The Sun: ‘I’ve always said that I want to play a Bond villain. I’d really love to do that. I’m serious, I would. If anyone knows Barbara Broccoli, please tell her.

‘There is something nice about just going, “I’m going to do a big movie next. And I know it’ll be seen by people”.’

She added: ‘I’m conscious of being blonde because I feel like a lot of female villains in movies are always super-blonde and evil-looking. I’d want to break the trend, but honestly, it’s whatever Barbara wants!’

Saoirse also admitted that if it was between her playing the villain in James Bond or her husband playing 007 she is happy to pass on the role.

Speaking on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast: ‘He should be Bond, if it’s a choice between the two. Isn’t it nice that I’ve done that?’

Although Bond Girls are well known in the spy films, female lead villains are far more scarce.

In 1999’s The World Is Not Enough, Sophie Marceau played the first female lead Bond villain, Elektra King.

Other female villains have included Grace Jones as assassin-turned-ally May Day in 1985’s A View To A Kill, and Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp, who murdered her victims between her muscular thighs, in 1995’s GoldenEye.

It comes Saoirse co-hosted a BBC Radio 2 show with Scottish DJ Edith Bowman and discussed her husband Jack’s hopes to become 007.

Edith said that Jack would be a great choice for the iconic role, adding that she had been making a similar argument for years.

In response, Saoirse said: ‘I’m going to start counting how many times you plug him for Bond on the radio.’

When Edith replied she had been doing so for six years, Saoirse responded: ‘Hasn’t happened yet though,’ before adding: ‘there’s time, there’s time’.

Saoirse also discussed how she and Jack – who helped her produce new Orkney-based movie The Outrun – believe it is important to work with people they feel comfortable with.

The Mary Queen of Scots star said: ‘When you feel safe in the company you’re in but you’re also being pushed, it’s the best environment.

‘The older we get, and certainly for myself and Jack, the more that we do this, the more important it is to us – and essential actually – to exclusively work with people who are on the same wavelength as us and who are just nice and good at what they do.

‘It doesn’t mean you have to be the best but you just have to be passionate about it and look after one another because there’s a lot of people out there who are not like that.’

Three years on since the release of No Time To Die, fans are eagerly awaiting that official announcement of who will replace Daniel Craig as the next James Bond.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson continues to be the bookies’ favourite at 6-4 while Henry Cavill’s odds have been cut from 7-2 while Lowden stands at 12-1.

Jack , 34, grew up in the Berwickshire village of Oxton and has carved out an career with films such as Dunkirk and Benediction and TV shows including Slow Horses and The Gold.

He and Saoirse met in 2018 when they co-starred in Mary Queen Of Scots and tied the knot over the weekend of July 20 this year.

She played the title role while Jack played Lord Darnley, the monarch’s husband. They started dating in December 2018.

They tied the knot in a secret ceremony in Edinburgh’s Old Town in July. The four-time Oscar-nominated star and the Scots actor held the wedding in an intimate setting just off the Royal Mile.

The private affair included a handful of the couple’s friends, who kept the nuptials under wraps, along with family. Their marriage certificate records that Jack Andrew Lowden, 34, married Saoirse Una Ronan, 30, in the registration office at the City Chambers on July 17.

US-born Saoirse, who grew up in Ireland, and Jack share a £2.5million home in London with their dog, Fran.
