The digital version of the PlayStation 5 console has dropped to its lowest-ever price on Amazon following the release of the higher-power PS5 Pro last month.

Having been put on sale to the public with a price tag of £799 at launch, gamers have had mixed reviews of the console.

However, the high price point for Sony’s flagship console has created a comparative bargain for another version of the PS5 in the lead-up to Christmas.

As the festive period Amazon has cut the price of the PS5 digital console to a new record low of £334.

While the PS5 Slim still has impressive performance levels for its size, there is one drawback you will need to take into consideration.

As it comes without a disc drive, you will need to purchase one if you want to play a game that has a physical disc – and stock of the disc drive attachment sold alongside the console is often limited.

Despite costing more than double the price of its Slim counterpart, the Pro does not come with a disc drive either.

It does come with 1TB of built in SSD storage, allowing you to keep your favourite games ready to play whenever you like.

You can also benefit from gameplay at up to 120fps for compatible games, with support for a 120Hz output on 4K displays.

When Sony unveiled its much anticipated PS5 Pro in September, gamers were unhappy with the eye-watering price tag and claimed it was missing two key features.

It has been four years since the PS5 arrived, bringing console gaming into a new generation.

When it was launched in 2020, the PS5 was the hottest piece of hardware around, selling out in a flash.

But fans of the console complained about the lack of a disc drive with the Pro, as well as the console having an ‘absurd’ price.

Gamers took to r/gaming on Reddit to vent their frustration.

One user said: ‘That pricing is quite frankly absurd.’

Another added: ‘No disc drive and £700. **** off.’
