A person was reportedly killed by a New York City subway train moments before the system’s busy evening rush hour. 

The person was struck along the 4/5/6 line at the Astor Place stop around 5 pm.

Police said the person has been pronounced dead after they got pinned underneath the train. 

Emergency crews could be seen at the subway stop trying to get to the unnamed victim.  

The 4/5/6 trains begins in Lower Manhattan and stretches to 125th Street in East Harlem. The incident was reported at 464 Lafayette Street.

Astor Place is along the 4/5/6 line which runs from the financial district to the Bronx

There is no southbound 6 train service at 33 St, 28 St, 23 St, Astor Pl, Bleeker St, Spring St , and Canal St, the Subway system told riders.

Southbound 6 trains are now running express from Grand Central-42 St to Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. 

The MTA has made announcements about the incident and delays on their social media and through their app as they said that the 4/5/6 are expected to be disrupted ‘until at least 6:10PM.’ 

People on social media have complained about lengthy delays during rush hour.

One person posted: ‘Yo @NYCTSubway- the rush hour trains are [s***]! There was a 7 min wait for the uptown 6 at 23rd street. So I walk to the yellow line at 23. Next Astoria bound W is 10 MINS AWAY!!’

‘I waited 15 mins on a stationary train for them to move it one stop and then tell us the train is turning around,’ another said.
